Obituary of William Bruce Meek
William Bruce Meek of “Bill” as he was affectionately known as was born September 3, 1950, in Monroe, Michigan. He was one of three children, but the only son born to the union of William Vincent and Violet Mae (Bishop) Meek. Bill attended Erie-Mason High School in Erie, Michigan, graduating with the class of 1968. After high school Bill drafted to the United States Army where he served in the Infantry during the Vietnam War earning an Honorable Discharge after being awarded two Purple Heart medals.
To provide for his family Bill worked for the Ford Motor Company as an electrician, retiring in 1988 after more than nineteen years of dedicated employment. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 723.
On March 30, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nevada Bill would marry the love of his life, the former Rebecca Wagner and together the couple would raise three children: Jason, Connie and Eric. Bill loved to fish and spend time on his boat on Lake Erie. He loved every opportunity to cast a line hoping to reel in a nice walleye or some perch. Bill and Rebecca loved to travel and often traveled to Bill’s favorite destination, the Island of St. John in the Caribbean. Bill was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and a thirty-year season ticket holder who was gifted a Lions jacket from the Detroit Lions organization for his many years of supporting the team. Bill was known as “Mr. Fix it” and was the man everyone called when something went wrong. Bill’s most precious pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and being a proud “Papa”
William Bruce “Bill” Meek, age 73 of Monroe, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday March 27, 2024, at his home. His passing was preceded by his parents; William and Violet Meek and his Uncle Jess.
To cherish Bill’s memory he leaves behind his loving wife of thirty one years; Rebecca Meek of Monroe, Michigan; one daughter; Connie (Derek)Hall of Monroe, Michigan; two sons; Jason Meek of Marathon, Florida and Eric Splan of Monroe, Michigan; two sisters; Betty (Martin) West of Newport, Michigan; Vickie (Jeff Rackam) Daman of Kasilof, Alaska; four grandchildren; Tyler, Brenden and Kenzie Hall and Noah Kane.
Friends may gather from 3:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday April 1, 2024, at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162. A Celebration of Bill’s life will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday April 2, 2024, also at Merkle’s with Pastor BJ McDaniel of One Way Christian Fellowship, officiating. A procession to Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, Michigan will follow with military honors provided under the auspice of the Monroe V.F. W. Post 1138.
