Goldia Longworth

Obituary of Goldia Edith Longworth

Goldia Edith Burchett was born in Louisa, Kentucky on October 19, 1954. She was one of eleven children born from the union of Winford and Goldie (Leadingham) Burchett.   Edie, as she would affectionately become known, would attend and graduate from Jonathan Alder High School in Plain City, Ohio.   After graduation, she would enroll in beauty school courses and successfully obtained her cosmetology license. She would style hair until she retired in 2010.

Edie would meet her future husband, Stephen Longworth, while still in high school.   The two would make their own ways in life until their paths crossed many years later when Edie would become his mother’s hairstylist.   The couple soon fell in love and were joined in marriage on September 3, 1994. Edie had a strong foundation in God. Her faith was easy to see as she was always encouraging those around her to trust in God for all things.

Above anything, Edie loved her family, and she especially treasured the time she spent with her daughter and grandchildren. Edie adored shopping with her daughter, Ashley no matter what store or mall they visited. Watching movies with her family was another favorite pastime, with the Hallmark Channel being her favorite.   Edie’s biggest concern in life was to make sure that her family was safe and secure.

Edie truly loved people and her personality offered a little southern charm, most notably when she said, “hey honey” or “hey sweetie”. Edie never met a stranger as she was a friendly face who was easy to talk with, even though she was on occasion spunky and opinionated.   She was an extremely caring, loving, and generous individual who often showed her nurturing side.   Her presence was sure to light up any room she entered.

Edie Longworth, age 67, of Newport, passed away at 4:05am on Tuesday; November 30, 2021.  Her passing was preceded by both of her parents; three brothers: Elmer Burchett, Bill Burchett; infant brother: Winford Burchett; and three sisters: Eva Colvin, Sue Guthrie, and Mary Love.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband: Stephen Longworth; daughter: Ashley (James) Anteau; stepson: Stephen (Nui) Longworth; three sisters: Jean Bentley, Rosie McMillian, Freda (Mack) Laney; one brother: John B.
