Obituary of Douglas Hall

Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas Martin Hall was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 23, 1945. He was the son of the late Henry R. Hall and Constance (Lewis) Hall. Douglas married the love of his life, the former Brenda Hanson on October 4, 1965 in Detroit. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Douglas supported his family working for the city of Lincoln Park as a heavy equipment operator. He was a quiet man and well respected, when he spoke people listened. Douglas had a dry sense of humor and was the "master of the one liner." He was a proud father and grandfather who loved to spend his time at his grandson's many activities. Douglas appreciated the summer months where you could find him out on the golf course or on his boat. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching his favorite teams: Red Wings, Tigers, Cubs and the Fighting Irish. In his younger years, Douglas was an active hockey coach of a four time state championship hockey team. Douglas loved to socialize with his buddies at the local VFW and in his quiet time he enjoyed a good boston cream donut. Douglas Martin Hall, age 67 of Lincoln Park, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013 peacefully at home. In addition to his father, his passing was preceded by a brother: Henry Hall. To cherish his memory, Douglas leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years: Brenda Hall; his mother: Constance of St. Helen; two sons: Kenny (Sheila) Hall of Newport and Todd (Laura) Hall of Monroe; one sister: Barbara Hall of Dearborn; three grandchildren: Matthew "Smooch", Zachary, and Alesandra. Cremation has taken place through Southern Michigan Services. A chapel service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock with Pastor Jack VanAcker, Chaplain of Great Lakes Hospice, officiating. Military honors will be held under the auspices of the Downriver Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street Monroe, Michigan (734) 384-5185. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
