Dorothy Mae Currey was born on March 8, 1925 in Dundee. She was one of two daughters born from the union of the late Carl Strickradt and the late Mary (Sakala) Stickradt. At the age of seven, Dorothy's family moved to Monroe. She attended Monroe schools graduating from the Monroe High School. She married the love of her life, Melvin Currey on December 7, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio. From this union the couple was blessed with seven children. Dorothy worked from the home as a homemaker and also watched several neighborhood children. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Monroe, also attending other local parishes. Although she had a tough exterior, Dorothy could best be described as very kind and loving person. She was a great friend, very loyal and devoted. Friends knew they were fortunate because Dorothy always would stand at their side being supportive. Dorothy was a wonderful loving wife, mother, and aunt. Later in life she had the joy and pleasure of being a grandmother and great grandmother. Nothing ever seemed so important to Dorothy as being able to spend time with the grandchildren. Dorothy also liked traveling and visiting Ocqueoc in Northern Michigan.
