Jakup Travis MacMullen was born in Monroe, Michigan on April 28, 1993. He was the son of Jim C. MacMullen Jr. and Nickole (Boerboom) MacMullen-Horr.
Jakup loved people and he was popular and well liked. While attending Monroe High he lettered in football and wrestling. On the football team he started at defensive end and tight end and as a wrestler he competed successfully at several different weights. His stepfather: Chad Horr was a frequent at Jakup's events and had assisted him with training for many years. Jakup graduated in June of 2011. Jakup enrolled at Monroe Community College for the fall semester. Being an outstanding athlete his lifelong dream was to be a walk-on for the football team of Michigan State. This summer he had worked as a laborer for Sygma.
Jakup was open-minded, helpful, even though he might put off today what he could just do tomorrow, and caring. He had a great sense of humor, and was infamous for saying: "I'm just happy being here". Jakup was always able to shrug things off and not let things bother him.
