Obituary of Mary Louise LaVoy
Mary Louise Germani “Lulu” was born in Monroe, Michigan on June 21, 1941. She was the oldest of five daughters born from the union of Mario Germani and Marie (Fix) Germani. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Church in Monroe, where she also attended their day school. She graduated with the Class of 1959 from St. Mary Academy. As a young woman she worked many years in the family business, Detroit Beach IGA as the head cashier. She also spent time employed as a telephone operator for AT&T.
Mary was joined in marriage on October 30, 1965, in Monroe, Michigan to the love of her life, Mark David LaVoy. The couple was blessed with three children and first and foremost she was a homemaker, providing her family’s needs. A wonderful baker and cook, her chicken and sliders, peanut butter chicken, pies, whoopie pies, and popcorn cake with gum drops were always fan favorites. For many years she was a room mother and playground attendant at St. Anthony’s School where her children attended.
Mary was a devout Catholic and proud conservative through and through. She was passionate about her love of country and her flag. She loved to be around people, enjoying conversation, laughter, and singing. For ten years, she worked as a floral designer for C’est La Vie Florist and an additional ten years as the manager of a podiatrist office.
Mary Louise LaVoy, age 83 of Temperance passed away peacefully at home on Saturday; December 14, 2024. She was under the care of Elara Caring Hospice. Her passing was preceded by her parents; her husband of more than forty-eight years: Mark on February 25, 2014; and three sisters: Rita Eby, Marianne Germani, and Rosemary Singleton.
To cherish her memory she leaves three children: Loren (Ann) LaVoy, Lori LaVoy, and Lee (Shari) LaVoy; seven grandchildren: Alyssa (Adam) Krock, Austin (Andrea) LaVoy, Aricka (Austin) Speck, Chase Lindecker, Brock Lindecker, Adrienne LaVoy, and Avery LaVoy; six great grandchildren with one on the way: Camden, Carter, Sawyer, Brooks, Madison, and Everett; and a sister: Michelle Germani.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday; December 20, 2024, at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070 where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30pm. She will lie in state from 9:00am until 10:00am on Saturday; December 21, 2024, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 8330 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, Michigan 48182 where the Mass of the Resurrection will take place at 10:00am. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery in Erie for burial.
The LaVoy family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Lulu’s caregivers who allowed her to stay in her home; her daughter: Lori; loving niece: Sarah Lambert; D’Arcy; Gerolyn; and the Taylor Gildersleeve’s Lady Sitters.
