Obituary of Rosalie Mary Alar
Rosalie Mary Kucera was born on October 23, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio. She was one of three daughters born to the union of Martin Kucera and Rose (Korvas) Kucera. Growing up, she and her sisters quickly learned the value of hard work on the family farm.
Rosalie attended Whitmer High School in Toledo, Ohio, where she was active in cheerleading, gymnastics, the National Honor Society, and served as class treasurer. She graduated with the class of 1958. After high school Rosalie furthered her education at the University of Toledo, graduating in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in education. While attending UT she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
As a professional woman, Rosalie was employed as a Special Education teacher for Monroe Public Schools. A dedicated educator, she found immense joy in shaping young minds and working with special needs children.
On August 29, 1964, at the Holy Rosary Church in Oregon, Ohio Rosalie married the love of her life: Charles “Buck” Alar and together the couple were blessed with two children: Pamela and Chris. Rosalie lived her life with an unparalleled zest. She loved gardening, boating, fishing, camping, swimming, baking, cooking, entertaining, dancing and above all, spending quality time with her family and friends. In her youth, she began dancing in a Czech dance troupe a tradition that extended into her early adulthood.
Known to be a gracious hostess, Rosalie creating amazing gatherings at her home for loved ones and just as passionately helped Buck with planning and organizing the Monroe Catholic Central reunions. She was a deeply committed mother and grandmother, attending every school event and extracurricular activity to support her offspring. Her devotion as a daughter, wife, sister, and friend was just as unwavering. Her kindness and compassion touched those who knew her, and her positivity, endless love, and generous spirit will forever be cherished.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rosalie Mary Alar, who peacefully departed this life at the age of 84 on Tuesday; December 10, 2024, at the Cambrian Memory Care in Tecumseh, Michigan. Her passing was preceded by her parents: Martin and Rose Kucera.
To cherish Rosalie’s memory, she leaves her loving husband of sixty years: Charles “Buck” Alar; two children: Pamela Liedel and Father Chris Alar; two grandchildren: Brian (Courtney) Liedel, Jr. and Andrea Liedel; one great granddaughter: Makinlee Liedel and two sisters: Ellen Sukup and Carol Hill. She will also be remembered by countless relatives, cousins, and friends who became like family.
Friends may gather from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday; December 16, 2024, at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm led by her son Chris. Rosalie will lie in state starting at 10:00am on Tuesday; December 17, 2024, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church; 502 West Front Street, Monroe, Michigan 48161 where the Mass of the Resurrection will begin at 11:00am with Father Kishore Battu and her son Father Chris Alar, as celebrants. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe for burial.
