Obituary of Charles Marion Young

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charles Marion “Chuck” Young was born on February 3, 1951, in Monroe, Michigan. He was the son of Glen Young and Marian (Hollingsworth) Young.  Chuck attended Monroe High School in Monroe, graduating with the class of 1969.

On June 26, 1971, at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe, Chuck married the love of his life, the former Jacquelyn Reiger. Together the couple were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Shari Lee and Traci Ann.  Chuck worked for many years at Hi-Way Lumber and then at North Star/Gerdau Steel where he retired after nearly forty years of employment.

Chuck had a very competitive spirit and a love of sports. He fondly told stories of his Babe Ruth baseball pitching days.  His love for the game and athletic prowess continued for many years, as he played men’s softball several nights a week throughout Monroe County.  He also had a passion for bowling and golfing with friends, which brought him great joy.  He was especially proud of the perfect 300 game he bowled and the hole in one he shot at the River Raisin Golf Course.

Chuck’s greatest passion in this life was family. He treasured his grandchildren and supported them in all of their endeavors, taking great pride in their accomplishments. He and Jackie especially enjoyed attending all of their sporting events. Chuck loved life and in his last days shared the message to “enjoy life because it goes by in a snap” and to “always look for the good in things”, which he always did.
