Obituary of Nancy Jean Moyer

Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Nancy Jean LaVigne was born on June 22, 1937, in Monroe, Michigan.  She was one of five children born to the union of Louis LaVigne and Marie (Steiman) LaVigne.

On April 30, 1955, at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe, Nancy married the love of her life: Herman Vearl Moyer. The couple were blessed with six children while enjoying sixty-seven years of marriage.  With a strong faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior, Nancy received her spiritual nourishment at Grace Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member.  To help provide for her family, Nancy was employed as a janitor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for more than twenty-five years. She also worked at Marian Place before retiring in 2010.

Nancy and Herman loved to travel near and far. Over the years they took trips to Las Vegas, Nashville, and the northernmost shores of Michigan. Every summer for many years the couple took their grandchildren in the motor home to the hot dog stand, ice cream parlor, and even the playground.

Nancy enjoyed all the “campouts” hosted in her back yard.  Being an excellent cook, Nancy never prepared a bad meal and enjoyed all the weekly dinners with loved ones.  Nancy opened her home and meals to anyone who could attend even the Schwann’s delivery man had a seat at her table. Her dishes of fried chicken and mashed potatoes delighted all of her dinner guests.

Nancy was one of the kindest and most welcoming people.  She cherished her family dearly and even considered friends to be family.  She, just as her husband Herman will be remembered for some of her quirky quotes like, “I’m the boss, grandpa said so” and “stay away from my china cabinet” which was as pristine now as the day she bought it.

Nancy Jean Moyer, age 87 of Carleton, Michigan passed away after a brief illness on Saturday; November 16, 2024, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.  Her passing was preceded by her parents: Louis and Marie LaVigne; her husband: Herman Moyer on May 30, 2022; two sons: Herman and Donnie; two sisters: Betty and Joyce; and a brother: Bob.
