Obituary of Kathleen Anne Hannigan
Kathleen Anne Iott was on born July 24, 1932, in Erie, Michigan. She was one of six daughters born from the union of Adrian Iott and Ethel (Cousino) Iott. She graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1950.
On July 21, 1954, she married the love of her life, Freddie Hannigan. The happy couple was blessed with the birth of eight children. To assist in providing for her family, Kathleen was employed as a realtor with DeSalle Real Estate for more than twenty-five years.
Sadly, tragedy struck when her son, Bob passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind young children. At a time when most people would have succumbed to grief, Kathleen's determination strengthened. She took in her grandchildren without hesitation. It was through this second round of parenting that Kathleen's selflessness truly shone.
Throughout her years, the only thing Kathleen neglected was her own health. She never visited a doctor, always prioritizing the needs of her family over her own well-being. Her focus was always outward, radiating care and concern for others.
Her only break came in the form of a pilgrimage to the Basilica in Portugal, a journey of deep personal significance that offered her a rare moment of reflection and prayer. It was the one trip she ever took for herself, yet even then, her thoughts were with her family, lighting candles and saying prayers for their health and happiness.
Loved ones often described Kathleen as a saint. Her home was always open, her heart forgiving, and her spirit indomitable. Remarkably, through all the hardships she endured, Kathleen never uttered a single profanity, maintaining a grace and dignity that inspired all who knew her.
