Obituary of Barbara Marie Billmyer
Barbara Marie Hemmer was born in Monroe, Michigan on June 26, 1936. She was the oldest of three children born from the union of Andrew Hemmer and Eileen (Steckmeyer) Hemmer. She was a 1954 graduate of St. Mary Academy. She married Ramon Billmyer and from this union was blessed with the birth of three children.
Barbara throughout her life displayed amazing independence. After her marriage to Ramon ended, the two remained friends. She returned to school in her 40’s at Monroe County Community College completing the Nursing Program. Following her graduation, she took a position as a Registered Nurse, spending more than twenty years employed by the former Beach Nursing Home.
Barbara made her home with her three feline companions. She was very loving with a dose of sassiness. She enjoyed reading with Romance novels being her favorite. She also enjoyed her backyard oasis where she took in the beauty of nature and bird watching. In her free time she liked to knit, making stockings and sweaters as gifts for loved ones.
Barbara Marie Billmyer, age 88 of Monroe passed away at 3:54am on Monday; November 4, 2024, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. Her passing was preceded by her parents; a brother: Frank Hemmer; and a son-in-law: David Jennings.
To cherish her memory she leaves three children: Lynn Jennings of Monroe, Karl Billmyer of Monroe, and Kurt (Pam) Billmyer of Temperance; a sister: Katherine "Kitty" (Steve) Janousky of Ocala, Florida; four grandchildren: Sarah Thomas (Nic Chapman), Emily Jennings, Melissa Billmyer, and Andrew Billmyer; four great grandchildren: Gregory Crisp, Mariah Crisp, Owen Thomas, and Abby Thomas; and four nieces and nephews: Susan, Erich, Evan, and Heather.
No public services are planned. Her care was entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc.
