Obituary of Robert Frank Canfield
Robert Frank Canfield was born in Vassar, Michigan on February 26, 1945, to the union of Charles “Chum” and Edelia (Tremonti) Canfield. One of eleven children Robert quickly became a family-oriented person at a very young age. He earned the rank of Specialist while serving his country honorably in the United States Army.
Following his discharge, Robert happily returned to civilian life becoming a small business owner. With a natural eye for detail, he operated a shop specializing in custom automotive paint jobs.
Robert was a passionate member of a motorcycle club, embarking on countless journeys across the United States. His love for the open road was only rivaled by his love for life itself. He was known to enjoy a cold beer with friends and was always up for a good party. Above all, Robert treasured spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Robert Frank Canfield, age 79, passed away at home in Newport, Michigan on Thursday, October 3, 2024. His passing was preceded by his parents: Charles and Edelia; and four siblings: Mabel, Elenor, Sylvia, and Danny.
Robert is survived by his loving partner: Janet Burgett; three children: Erica (Matt) Jondro, Robert Canfield Jr., and Renee four grandchildren: Annabel Brooks, Izzabel Brooks, Paige Jondro, and Cody Jondro; seven siblings: Bill, Kat, Margaret, Loretta, Shirley, Ronnie, and Charles; as well as many loving nieces and nephews who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Friends may gather to honor his life from 2:00pm until 7:00pm on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will begin at 7:00pm with members of Monroe VFW Post 1138 Ritual Team providing military honors. Cremation will follow through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc.
