Obituary of Carl Edmund Person
Carl Edmund Person was born on March 29, 1934, in Cogan Station, Pennsylvania. He was one of three children born from the union of Melvin Person and Alice (Kyle) Person. Carl graduated with the class of 1952, from Williamsport High School in Pennsylvania. He met the love of his life, the former Shirley Richardson and the couple exchanged vows on December 24, 1954. The happy duo was blessed with the birth of three sons.
Standing roughly six feet tall, Carl’s towering presence was dwarfed only by his monumental heart. His neighbors and friends often said that his heart was the biggest part of him. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help a stranger in need.
Carl had a particularly soft spot for small engines and clocks. He was known for never letting anyone throw such items away, often declaring, "I can find a part to fix that!" and he did more often than not.
Aside from his interests in repairs, Carl had a dry, sarcastic sense of humor that endeared him to many. He could make the most mundane situation light with his quick wit. He often used his humor to put people at ease, establishing friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Carl took great pride in his gardens. His flowers were a colorful oasis of geraniums, double petunias, pansies, and begonias. Next to this vibrant display were his vegetables, brimming with great crops. Though Carl had ambitions to can his harvest, his family always devoured the produce too quickly, leaving nothing left to preserve.
In his spare time, Carl dedicated himself to woodworking. He crafted beautiful, functional pieces for his family, tailoring each item to their needs. His creations ranged from intricately designed curio cabinets to practical book racks and even custom potty-training toilets for his grandchildren. Every piece bore the mark of his skill and love, making each a cherished family heirloom.
Carl Edmund Person, age 90, of Monroe, passed away at his home at 2:58pm on Thursday; September 26, 2024. His passing was preceded by his parents; his wife on February 2, 2012; and a sister: Barbara Malischewski.
