Obituary of Barbara Diane Green - Thivierge
Barbara Diane Domke was born on November 29, 1956. One of seven children, she was raised in Detroit, Michigan during the riots of 1967. Although Barb did not complete high school, she was proud to have obtained her GED later in life through Monroe County Community College.
Barb was a very determined, strong willed, and hard-working woman. For more than twenty years, she helped provide for her family with employment at the McLouth Steel Plant in Trenton, Michigan. She later started her own residential cleaning business called Barbara’s House Cleaning. After many years of painstaking work, she retired from cleaning homes.
On May 21, 1988, Barbara married the love of her life, Mr. Louis Thivierge and together the couple raised two sons: Rick and Louis. Being Hungarian and Italian, Barb knew her way around the kitchen. She loved cooking for her family, often making her specialty meals like barley soup, spaghetti, lasagna, venison, or cabbage rolls. When she wasn’t busy feeding everyone, she enjoyed canning vegetables, venison, beef, or pork.
Barb had a strong faith in the Lord. She spent countless hours refreshing her soul by watching Christian television programs. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend known for her loyalty, compassion, and caring nature. Completing projects with Louis were favorite pastimes but none more so than raising and training German Short Haired Pointers. Her home was shared with her own two pointers: Rose Bud and Mika.
Diane Green-Thivierge, age 67 of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly on Monday; September 9, 2024, at ProMedica Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Her passing was preceded by her parents; a sister: Kathy Butler; and her bonus sister: Vicky, who was adopted by Barbara’s family when she was young.
To cherish Barb’s memory she leaves her loving husband of thirty-six years: Louis Thivierge of Monroe; two sons: Rick (Michelle) Green of Camarillo, California and Louis Bryan Thivierge of Holland, Michigan; three brothers: Michael Domke, Joe Domke, and Sam Noto; two sister-in-laws: Bunny Burleson and Irene (Jerry) Brewer; two grandsons: Jason and Andrew Green; and two very special nephews: David (Nola) Butler of Florida and Troy Butler of Monroe.
Private services have been held, and no public services are planned. Barbara’s care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc.
