Obituary of Sebastian Schmitt

Sebastian Schmitt was born on September 16, 1956, in Bismark, North Dakota.  He was born to the union of Michael Schmitt and Eva (Schwartzenberger) Schmitt. After graduating high school Sebastian found employment for many years selling building supplies.

Sebastian possessed a sharp sense of humor and had a quick wit. He was passionate about exploring new places, often seeking his adventures through travel. Sebastian also loved the thrill of the casino, engaging in games of chance, and cherished the camaraderie of shooting pool with family and friends. Fishing was a favorite pastime, allowing him to unwind and connect with nature. Additionally, he found joy in watching sports, particularly golf and racing.

Sebastian Schmitt, age 67, of Dundee, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on Saturday; August 10, 2024. His passing was preceded by that of his parents: Michael and Eva Schmitt; four siblings: Bill Schmitt, Danny Schmitt, Perry Schmitt, and Frances “Franny” Kelch; and a brother-in-law: Al Ward.

His memory will live on through his step-son Adam; ten surviving siblings: Luella (Eddie) Kunz, Mike (Mary) Schmitt, Virginia Wald, Margie (Allen) Meyer, Marie (Larry) Englehardt, Tony (Vickie) Schmitt, Joseph Schmitt (Mary Straub), Marveline (Billy) Bibb, Joann Stiver, and Charlene (Jerry) Fritts; two sisters-in-law: Janice and Delrose Schmitt; one brother-in-law: Gary Kelch; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Friends may gather from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday; August 19, 2024, at Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee; 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 (734) 529-3156.  A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday; August 20, 2024, also at Merkle’s with Deacon Mike Stewart of St. Mary Parish in Monroe officiating. Procession will follow to Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee, Michigan for burial.
