Obituary of Gabriel Michael McQuaide

Please share a memory of Gabriel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gabriel Michael McQuaide was born in Barberton, Ohio on July 18, 1979.  He was the eldest of two children born from the union of Jeffrey Charles McQuaide and Catherine Ann (Ringkor) McQuaide.  From a young age and throughout his life, Gabe demonstrated a calmness, a trait he inherited from his father. He moved to Southeast Michigan as a child, where Monroe became his home.  However, he remained true to his roots as an Ohio State Buckeye fan.  He graduated in 1998 from Monroe High School lettering in football.

At Monroe High he met his high school sweetheart, Shannon Zollar.  The couple were blessed with three sons, twins: Conner and Caeden and Brenden.  Unfortunately, they later went their separate ways.  Gabe's academic journey took him to Monroe County Community College and Kent State University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration.  At Kent State he was a proud member of Delta Sigma PI fraternity, a business organization.  He had a life-long thirst for knowledge and most recently had been working towards a master’s degree at the University of Toledo.

Gabe's professional journey was a vibrant blend of experiences across different industries. At Lehigh Hanson, he was involved in the building materials sector, understanding the nuances of construction and infrastructure. Later, his career path led him to Konecranes, where he delved into the complexities of industrial crane operations, maximizing the efficiency of large-scale industrial operations. His journey in the professional world continued at Hirzel Canning, where Gabe contributed to the agriculture and food manufacturing industries.

One of the highlights of Gabe’s career was managing a seven-state territory, which afforded him the opportunity to see firsthand many vast landscapes and encounter diverse cultures throughout the United States. These experiences enriched his understanding of the country's unique regional dynamics and strengthened his connection to his homeland.

On June 16, 2018, Gabe married the former Sarah (Rowley) Duvall, his best friend and partner in every sense, at the beautiful Wildwood Preserve Nature Park in Sylvania, Ohio. Together, they built a nurturing and loving home for their blended family of five children. His devotion as a family man was evident in the quality time he spent with each of them, whether exploring nature, camping under the stars, or engaging in outdoor activities like fishing and kayaking in Michigan’s scenic rivers. As an avid outdoorsman, Gabe embraced the tranquility and excitement of nature. Whether hunting in the forests of Northern Michigan or South-Central Ohio, he was in his element when surrounded by God’s creation.

His commitment to community service was as notable as his professional achievements. Deeply invested in youth development, Gabe spent countless hours teaching math and science to middle and high school students, empowering them with knowledge and skills for their futures. His two-decade tenure as a high school football coach allowed him to mentor young athletes, instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication.  His deep sense of community extended beyond the classroom and field. His volunteer work with the Special Olympics and the Boy Scouts of America highlighted his passion for inclusivity and leadership. Through these roles, he has positively impacted numerous young lives.

Gabe joined the Merkle Funeral Service team in August of 2023 as an Advanced Planning Specialist.  He found great satisfaction in that role working with families documenting their funeral arrangement wishes.  Most recently he worked as a Sales Manager for All Heart Athletics.

Gabe's life was a testament to his dedication, varied interests, and the positive impact he made in both his professional and personal circles. His larger-than-life personality and warm, welcoming smile will truly be missed.

Gabriel Michael “Gabe” McQuaide, age 45 of Monroe went to be with his Lord and Savior, at 8:26am on Wednesday; July 31, 2024, at Corewell Health Hospital in Trenton.  At his passing, Gabe, gave the Gift of Life to numerous others through organ and tissue donation.  His family receives great comfort in knowing that they have honored his wish.   His passing was preceded by his father: Jeffrey C.
