Obituary of George Kastura

George "Josh" Joseph Kastura April 28, 1931 - January 3, 2015 George "Josh" Joseph Kastura was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 28, 1931. He was one of four children born from the union of the late Stephen and the late Matilda (Sako) Kastura. George graduated from Slocum Truax High School in Trenton Michigan in 1949. He went on to join the United States Navy where he served proudly and with great honor during the Korean War. George worked at Ford Motor Company for thirty years were he would take retirement, and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, local 892. George had a passion for helping the youth. He was a proud leader of the Boy Scouts of America and helped out with the Girls Scouts, and he was involved in 4-H. For more than twenty years George volunteered at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He was known to be the kind of person who liked to take care of people when they were in need. He was a kind, helpful and generous man. George was an avid reader, and was very artistic. He loved to spend time outside planting and tending to his flowers and garden. Halloween and Christmas was his favorite holidays and he loved to decorate for them. George loved music in his younger years, even taking part in his High School Musicals. George Joseph Kastura, age 83 of Monroe passed away unexpectedly after surgery on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by his sister: Mary Vargo. To cherish his memory, George leaves his two sisters: Dolores (Duane) Chipman of Monroe and Kathleen (Richard) Johnston of Ann Arbor; one niece: Jennifer Dean of Monroe; one nephew: Richard Kastura; four great nieces: Samantha Davis, Kristina Hutton, Cheyenne Kastura and Olivia Chipman; and one great great nephew: Logan Davis. Friends may gather from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Friday January 9, 2015 at 11:00 am also at Merkle's. Reverend Dr. William Findley will officiate.
