Obituary of Herman Edwin Amolsch
Herman Edwin Amolsch, 83 years of age, passed away peacefully into the arms of his beloved “Trish” on May 16, 2024. Herman was born in Monroe on February 15, 1941, to Andrew and Hazel (Zimmerman) Amolsch. He was raised by his sister Stella after the death of his parents.
Herman was baptized on June 1, 1941, and confirmed May 29, 1955, as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he also attended school for K through 8th grade. He was a 1959 graduate of Monroe High School where he excelled and lettered in football and baseball.
He met Patricia, the love of his life, at a court dance at St. Mary’s Park in 1954. They married on June 4, 1960. Herman was employed by Ford Motor Company for 36 years, retiring in 2001. In the early years of his Ford employment, he also worked for Banas and Wrobel and did blueprint drawings for several contractors. After retirement, Herm and Trish spent several winters in Arizona. In 2008, due to health issues, they sold their place in Arizona.
Herman was a remarkable golfer, spending all of his summers honing his talent at Dundee Golf Course. There he made lifelong friendships and maintained a family relationship with the Flynn family, especially Dan and his family.
Herman is survived by two daughters: Kelly (Mitchell) Brower and Kimberly Collum; grandchildren: Stefenni (Terry) Turner, Ashley (Chad) Ewing, Patricia (Michael) Zinner, Megan Heil, Aryn Brower, Andrew (Nick) Brower, Adam (Julie) Brower, Brandon Calkins, Jeffrey (Abigail) Calkins, and Austin Calkins; great grandchildren: Dylan and Landon Turner, Rachel and Payton Zinner, Charlotte Ewing, Reid, Jack, and Finn Heil, and Emelia Scarantino; and a sister: Sharlene Cote of Alabama. His passing was preceded by his beloved Patricia in 2019; a daughter: Kristen in 2023 and her spouse Paul in 2018; his parents; four siblings: Stella, Richard, Sherman, and Rosella; and his beloved four-legged companion: Jake.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 7:00pm on Wednesday; May 22, 2024, at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A Funeral Service Celebrating His Life will follow at 7:00pm also at Merkle’s with Pastor Mark Witte officiating. Since Herm and Pat spent many Saturdays attending U of M Football with family and friends, please wear your favorite U of M gear. Cremation will take place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc. His cremated remains will be laid to rest at the Butterfly Garden at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle.
