Obituary of Robert Leroy Ritnour, Jr.

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert Leroy Ritnour, Jr. was born on December 23, 1956, in Fairfield, California. He was one of four children born from the union of Robert Leroy and Bonnie Jean (Horsman) Ritnour, Sr. He graduated from Wenatchee High School in Washington. While living in California, he became gainfully self-employed as a mover.

Robert was a creature of habit, steadfastly set in his ways. He spent most of his life as a solitary figure, and it was often jokingly said that he was more pleasant from a distance. He found solace in playing on his phone and watching television, immersing himself in the digital and virtual realms. Before his health declined, he ventured to the casino, testing his luck on the slot machines or checking his skill with a few hands of blackjack.

Robert wasn't known for his wordiness, but when he did choose to speak, his words held power, almost always leaving people with a sense of honesty and on occasion, discomfort. It became a familiar response to say, "tell us how you really feel, Bob," whenever he expressed himself.

Thirteen years ago, fate intervened, and Robert met the love of his life, Doniel Viers. Their connection was instant, and despite their differences, they formed a dynamic duo. They crossed paths in the vast realm of the Internet and spent a year chatting on the phone before Robert mustered the courage to uproot his life in Arizona and move to Michigan. Together, they balanced each other, as Doniel’s talkative nature perfectly complemented Robert's reserved demeanor. She brought positivity into his life, where he often struggled to find it himself.

Despite his independence, Robert was surprisingly sentimental. He remained fiercely self-reliant, even in seemingly mundane tasks like doing his own laundry. Though he found it challenging to finish what he started, he insisted on doing things his way, even if it took him longer. Breaking through his walls was no small feat, but for those who succeeded, they found a caring and devoted friend. Robert went to great lengths to ensure that those who knew him felt cherished and appreciated.
