Obituary of Charles Wayne Prater
Charles Wayne Prater was born on August 11, 1950, in Middlesboro, Kentucky. He was one of ten children born to the union of Dallard and Stella (Standifur) Prater. Charles attended Erie Mason High School in Erie, Michigan.
On January 17, 1975, in Monroe, Michigan Charles married the love of his life, the former Kathleen Janus. Together the couple had three children: Robin, William, and Wayne. For more than nineteen years he was employed as a laborer in the construction industry for the Local Union 1151.
Charles loved to have a good time and was always a fun spirited person to be around. He loved spending time with his family, his brothers, and his friends. He was also the first person to step up and help someone no matter what they needed. When Charles wasn’t lounging at home watching his favorite tv show, Mash he could be found out in the garage woodworking. He was a very talented woodworker, and loved making bird houses, tables, and rocking horses that everyone adored.
Charles Wayne Prater, age 73 of Monroe passed away on Wednesday; September 20, 2023, at the ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. His passing was preceded by his parents: Dallard and Stella Prater; his loving wife of thirty-nine years: Kathleen Prater; six sisters: Viney, Grace, Otsie, Louella, Anna, and Mary (Sue); five brothers: Eugene, Ray, Finley, Jerry, and Calvin.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his daughter: Robin (Rick) Goff of Toledo, Ohio; two sons: William (Nicole) Janus and Wayne Prater both of Monroe; a sister: Pauline Coss of LaSalle; seven grandchildren: Josh Janus, Nathan Hill, Nicole Trevarrow, Tyler Hill, Paige Jondro, Cody Jondro, and Jenna Janus; four great grandchildren: Zayne Hill, Remy Hill, Willow Janus, and Harper Liparoto.
Friends may gather for a graveside service at 11:00am on Monday; September 25, 2023, at Roselawn Memorial Park; 13200 South Dixie Highway, LaSalle, Michigan 48145. His care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185.
