Obituary of Melissa Ondia Pitock-Phillips
Melissa Ondia Pitock was born on December 17, 1992, in Wyandotte, Michigan. She was the daughter of Mark Pitock and Barbara (Summers) Bechtel. Melissa attended Airport Community Schools and Airport High School in Carleton, Michigan. While attending school Melissa was a very bright and artistic student. She earned a place on the Honor Roll many times due to her hard work. Although she did not graduate from high school, Melissa obtained her GED later in her life.
Having an artistic ability was second nature to Melissa. She loved to paint, draw, and color with coloring being on the top of her list of favorite hobbies. She enjoyed reading poems and books or catching a good scary movie. Melissa was an excellent cook and baker. She prepared a variety of delicious meals that included dessert with her mouth-watering cupcakes. When she wasn’t meal prepping, Melissa enjoyed spending time outdoors whether she was at Girl Scout camp, watching or playing soccer and baseball, swimming, riding motorcycles, or casting a line fishing and hoping for a big catch. Above all, Melissa enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and especially her two children: Benjamin and Constance.
Melissa Ondia Pitock-Phillips, age 30 of New Boston, Michigan passed away tragically on Tuesday; September 5, 2023, at Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan from injuries sustained from an automobile accident. Her passing was preceded by her grandparents: Kenneth R. Summers Sr., Richard Pitock, and Carl and Nancy Bechtel; aunts:Mary Pitock and Kathy (Sykes) Summers; uncles: Mark Corey Sr., Kenneth Rodney Summers, and Kenneth Ray Summers Jr.; great aunt: Doris Pitock, Bonnie Summers and cousins; Katie Pitock and Nicholas Oneal
To cherish Melissa’s memory she leaves two children: Benjamin Andrew Phillips and Constance Ondia Phillips both of Monroe; her mother and stepfather whom raised her: Barbara (Jerry) Bechtel Sr. of New Boston, Michigan; her father: Mark Pitock of Monroe; a sister: Jodi (Tyrell) Bechtel – Forsland; two brothers: Jacob Richard (Dawn Jones) Pitock of Inkster, Michigan and Jerry Bechtel Jr. of New Boston, Michigan; grandmothers: Barbara Ruth Summers of New Boston and Loretta Avery of Florida; and Alice Summers of Belleville , along with several loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather on Wednesday; September 13, 2023, from 3:00pm until 7:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Melissa’s Life will be held at 7:00pm also at Merkle’s with Pastor BJ McDaniel of One Way Christian Fellowship in Monroe officiating. Cremation will follow through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
