Dear Ansel Clan - as your celebration of Betty’s life is presently taking place in Monroe, Michigan, we are reflecting on our beautiful little slice of relationship with Betty Louise Greer Ansel as our spirits join with yours from Stratford, Ontario.
When Janine’s parents, George and Ruth Elsasser, first came to Monroe in 1979 to take on an associate pastoral role at Redeemer Baptist, Ruth, being more of an introvert, had a difficult time adjusting. Betty, as a proud American with a Canadian heritage, reached out to connect with Ruth. The three of them became very good friends.
Our first encounter with the Ansel family was with Betty, Mike, Lorna, and two cute little blonde girls when we visited with Janine’s parents on Hemlock Street in the Fall of 1979.
Betty, then, became the bridge to a deep and enduring friendship when she invited us to meet the rest of her clan during the Christmas holidays for a tobogganing outing on the viaduct.
Through this encounter and some following visits, we struck up a “forever friendship” with Brad and Jeannie. Little did we know that visiting at Betty’s place that Christmas would turn out to be a “divine encounter” with a very precious and highly treasured friendship that has spanned four and a half decades.
Every time that we visited with Brad and Jeannie, we would get a beautiful update on everyone’s comings and goings…Randy, Mike, Darryl, Brett, and Dean and their families. It always felt like a very special glimpse into the lives of these incredible people, with this amazing mother, larger than life, a faithful King’s daughter, leading you all.
When you love people deeply and share lives intimately, of course you are aware of the wrinkles and blemishes, as well. However, you demonstrated, with your lives and vocations, a beautiful service to God, family, community, and country. From our perspective…a great slice of Americana!
From our first encounter with Betty and through many visits over the years, we were so incredibly blessed by her life and anointed gifts of spiritual insights, strong faith, unwavering prayers of intercession, indominable spirit, emotional courage, strong and resonating voice, and beautiful, gracious generosity.
She always stood out in a crowd with her infectious laugher and heartfelt joy. Her white hair and brilliant red and white Red Wings jersey was a reflection of who she was, as one time, unplanned, we were surprised by joy, seeing her across the room at a restaurant,
And oh, HOW she LOVED…deeply, fiercely and intimately…wholly. We were always drawn into this love, whether we were visiting or chatting on the phone. When you were with Betty, you were SEEN.
Last summer we had the privilege and joy of being with Betty when Brad and Jeannie and Brett and Sandy attended a wedding.
It was like we hadn’t missed a beat over the years. At one point she said bluntly, “I’m tired. It’s time you get out of here so that I can have a bit of rest.” She was never shy about telling you what she thought but there was always a golden thread of loving affirmation attached.
Her “Oh, Bobbies” delighted our hearts. Her parting words to us were always, “See you here, there or in the air.”
Our next visit will be with her THERE.
She has left her eternal mark on us all, and you, especially as her family, will carry what she has bequeathed to you EXTRAORDINARILY and SUPERNATURALLY IN and THROUGH ALL those following her.
Receive, be filled and held in our Precious Lord and Saviour’s DEEPEST LOVE, PEACE, COMFORT, and GRACE.
Thank you, beautiful lady, for your deep and enduring love to your Faithful God, family, friends and community. We will miss you greatly!
Many blessings and prayers and deepest love to you all,
Bob and Janine Schultz

I got to know Mrs. Ansel when Mike and Lorna’s family briefly lived across the street from me. Oh my, what a wonderful lady!
I would see her through the years and was always greeted with her beautiful smile. She was such a joyful lady and the love of Jesus Christ shone so brightly through her. I hadn’t seen her in many years, but her impact on me has never been forgotten.
I am thinking of and praying for your dear family at this difficult time. May God bless you.

To the Ansel family. Your mom was a good woman of faith, and she knew that one day she would walk with Jesus. She was prepared, and she helped everyone else prepare for that beautiful day. A great life for a great lady. God Bless, Cousin Henry, and wife Carolyn Webb

I remember my dear Aunt Betty as a wonderful full of life mom to everyone. I loved spending many weekends with her and my Uncle Norman and my cousins. We'd always come up with crazy things to do and Aunt Betty would just shake her head and enjoyed our antics. She will be deeply missed.

What a wonderful lady Betty was❤️ I met her thru Shirley Kreps and she always had a spring in her step and Jesus in her heart. I would see her often in her driveway or yard and she always had a smile on her face and a warm wave. I know her family will miss her but what wonderful memories you have!

I was a young girl at the time, but I remember how sweet you were. The Poniedzialek’s owe their salvation to the Lord in part because of you. You helped lead them (and then ultimately me and my children) to be saved. Your family will miss you, but they will meet you again. Rejoice in Heaven Betty.
