Obituary of Anthony Bernard Rushin
Anthony Bernard Rushin was born on November 6, 1968, in Detroit, Michigan. He was the youngest of four children born to the union of Joseph and Alice (Martin) Rushin. Tony graduated from Monroe High School in Monroe, Michigan with the Class of 1985. He was employed at various businesses over the years including Meijer Warehouse where he worked unloading trucks until medically retiring in 2014. More than eighteen years ago, Tony crossed paths with the love of his life, Kathy Metcalf. Although the two never formally wed, their commitment to one another was as strong as the bond of marriage.
Whatever he was doing, Tony cherished time spent with family and friends. A loving father and grandfather, he never missed a birthday or holiday with his kids. Tony looked forward to joining his father in-law, Chuck, for fishing trips at Bolles Harbor in Monroe. He also enjoyed shooting pool with his best friend, Troy Minor, and watching movies with his long-term companion, Kathy. Tony often relaxed by gaming on his X-box console and watching comedies on television, especially “Ridiculousness”, of which he replayed the same episodes again and again.
An amazing cook and grill master, Tony learned his skills in the kitchen from his mother. Everyone always looked forward to his specialty potato salad. A sports fan, he cheered on all the Detroit teams, especially the Lions football team and Tigers baseball team. A kind and gentle soul, Tony took care of everyone’s needs before his own. He had a great sense of humor and was never shy to be exactly who he was.
