Obituary of Angelo Gebard

Angelo Gebard was born in Sandusky, Ohio on February 24, 1925. He was one of eleven children born form the union of the late Angelo and Anna Belle (Cross) Gebard. Angelo honorably served his country in the United States Navy as a Boatswain Mate First Class from 1942 until 1946, awarded an Asiatic-Pacific medal, an American Area medal and a Victory medal. He continued his noble service from 1946 until 1985 in the Naval Reserves out of Bayview Park in Toledo.
Angelo married the love of his life the former Audrey Krawetzki on May 11, 1946 in Sandusky, Ohio. He supported his family as a commercial fisherman until becoming a Die Setter and a Union Steward at Sharon Manufacturing, retiring in 1989. Angelo served as a Volunteer Police Officer, President of The Water Tower Senior Center and a member of the American Legion Post 193 of Luna Pier.
Angelo cherished the time he spent with family, appreciating the many camping trips across the nation with them and the gift of an Alaskan trip from his children. As an avid outdoorsman, Angelo also loved boating, hunting and fishing.
Angelo Gebard, age 89, of Luna Pier passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by his son: Michael Gebard; four sisters: Angeline DeMore, Anna Conley, Vivian Fisher, and Fran Zimmerman; and three brothers: Vincent, John, and Joseph Gebard.
To cherish his memory, Angelo leaves his loving wife of sixty-eight years: Audrey Gebard; two daughters: Deborah (Walter) Lemle and Diana (Kevin) Szkatulski of Luna Pier; three sisters: Della Robinson of Jerome, Michigan, Mary Michael of Wisconsin, and Lou (Ron) Miller of Sandusky, Ohio; six grandchildren: Brian Gebard, Jennifer (Clayton) Martin, Eric (Tamra) Lemle, Marc (Deana Gormley) Lemle, Megan and Alana Szkatulski.
Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service Erie, 9156 Summit Street (734)848-5185. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 11:00am also at Merkle's with Pastor Kenneth Steffes of Luna Pier Baptist Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park where graveside services will be under the auspices of Erie VFW Post 3925.
