Mary Kathrine Thompson was born in Monroe on October 9, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Clifford Carr and the late Nancy (Thompson) Barboza. She was also raised by her stepfather the late Maximano Barboza.
Mary married Edward William Blair Jr. on December 30, 1956 in Toledo. From this union came four children. Mary stayed at home and cared for her family as a homemaker. She was supportive to her husband and children and all of their endeavors. Mary was a wonderful person and caregiver. She showed her appreciation to others in many ways and was very attentive to their needs. Mary always looked forward to Sunday afternoons spent with family having a home cooked meal.
In her free time, Mary was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and loved to play Bingo. She enjoyed collecting Western and American Indian memorabilia. Mary was a member of Newport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3943.
Mary Kathrine Blair, age 74 of Monroe passed away at 12:35pm on Monday; May 12, 2014 at her home. Her loving family was at her side and she had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. In addition to her parents and stepfather her passing was preceded by her husband: Edward in February of 2007, a daughter: Sherrie Lynn Bomia on September 2, 2011, and a grandson: William Bomia on January 5, 2007.
To cherish her memory she leaves three sons: Edward Blair of Monroe, Rockie (Karen) Blair of Flat Rock, and Richard Schaeffer of West Virginia; three brothers: Max (Julie) Barboza, Melvin (Denise) Barboza, and Beaver Barboza all of Monroe; eight grandchildren: Tia (Scott) Sampson, Misty Bomia, Tabetha Blair, Tanya (Dave) Coyle, Eddie (Sarah) Blair, Eric (Katie) Blair, Sarah Hall, and Dannielle Horton; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 11:00am on Saturday; May 17, 2014 also at Merkle's. Reverend Richey pastor of Calvary Assembly of God in Rockwood will officiate. A Graveside Service and burial with her husband will take place at 2:30pm on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
