Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Leroy Hill was born in Oakland, California on May 8, 1944. He was one of four children born from the union of the late Alfred Hill and the late Velma (Gomez) Hill. Michael enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly and honorably served his country during the Vietnam Conflict from 1961-1967. He obtained the rank of E3. While living in California, Michael earned his four year college degree. Later he worked for many years in the telecommunications industry for Comcast Cable Company. He married the love of his life, the former Sandra Fletcher, on June 12, 1982 in Newport, Vermont. Michael and Sandra moved from the West Coast to Michigan in 2001. They made their home in the Newport area. Michael was a great person with a big heart. He was also an unpredictable jokester at times. He was laid back and relaxed always looking to have fun. People enjoyed gathering in his presence. He liked to fish and had bowled in several leagues with Sandy in Vermont. Michael was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and loved being surrounded by his friends watching a game. The only thing that Michael seemed to love more than his 49ers was his wife's cooking. Michael Leroy Hill, age 69 of Newport, passed away peacefully at 8:15pm on Sunday, April 27, 2014. He had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by two sisters: Shirley Dufer and Myrna Wust. To cherish his memory Michael leaves his beloved wife of thirty-one years: Sandra of Newport; one sister; a Himalayan cat: Putt Putt; a lap dog, his Shitzu: Oreo. A private gathering was held, and a private memorial service is being planned for a later date. Cremation has taken place through Southern Michigan Services in Livonia, Michigan. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with his arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sandra Hill to assist with expenses.
