Obituary of Gladys Standifer
Please share a memory of Gladys to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gladys Juanita Cupp was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on June 25, 1928. She was born from the union of the late Frank Cupp and the late Ellen (Wilson) Cupp. Gladys married Benton Standifer on June 9, 1945 in Middlesboro, Kentucky. They moved to the Monroe area in 1951 to pursue employment opportunities. Together the couple raised five wonderful children.
Gladys obtained her much deserved high school diploma in 2004 from the Senior Adult Education Program. She received spiritual nourishment from Stewart Road Christian Ministries. Gladys spent many years volunteering for several local charities: The Shelter for Battered Women, RSVP, MCOP, Green Thumb and was also a Foster Grandparent. In 1989, she received an award for "Grandma of the Year."
Gladys was a very giving person always volunteering to take care of others. She was an easy going person who could be strong-willed at times. Her love for the Lord was evident in her daily Bible reading, singing in the church choir and watching various Christian television programs. Gladys loved to spoil her family with her awesome cooking at many family gatherings. In her quiet time she enjoyed crocheting, cross word puzzles and watching the Andy Griffin Show and soaps operas.
