Obituary of Peter Mushing

Peter Joseph Mushing Jr. was born in Monroe on May 28, 1942. He was one of two sons born to the union of the late Peter J. and the late Evelyn (Duvall) Mushing Sr. Peter served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army, an M-14 rifle expert, he obtained the rank of SP-4.
He married the love of his life the former Beverly J. Swartz on April 29, 1966 in Toledo. From this union would come the birth of two daughters.
Peter worked thirty-six years at Ford Motor Company at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant. He was a proud UAW member and had enjoyed serving as a Committee person for many years prior to his retirement in 2001.
Peter was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He loved hunting for duck, fishing, and trapshooting. He was a longtime member of the Monroe Rod and Gun and Canvasback Gun Clubs. Peter was a so-called, social butterfly. He enjoyed visiting friends and hanging out with his buddies. He cherished his family and especially his grandchildren instilling family values in them.
He had attended Monroe Alliance Church establishing an inseparable bond with Pastor Mark who often counseled him on his spiritual journey.
Peter age 71 of Monroe passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 in the emergency room of Mercy Memorial Hospital. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a niece: Kathryn L. Mushing.
To cherish his memory he leaves a loving wife of forty-seven years: Beverly of Monroe; two daughters: Pamela (Kevin) Ford and Patricia Mushing; a foster daughter: Laura Runyon all of Monroe; one brother: Richard "Dick" (Carol) Mushing of Monroe; four beloved grandchildren: Taylor and Tyler Ford and Derek and Blake Runyon; two nephews: Rick (Julie) Mushing of Rockford and Scott (Christine) Mushing of Monroe; and his beloved Yorkie: Jewell.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm-8:00pm, Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070 (formerly Bennett Funeral Services). A Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, November 14 also at Merkle's with Reverend Mark Blake pastor of Monroe Alliance Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn where graveside services will be under the auspices of Monroe VFW Post 1138.
