Obituary of Georgetta Grassel

Georgetta Carney was born in Frenchtown Township on October 28, 1938. She was from a large blended family of ten children from the marriages of the late Verl L. Carney and the late Evelyn (Schmidt) Snyder. Georgetta graduated from Airport High School and later obtained an Associate's Degree in Accounting.
Georgetta was a go-getter. She worked for several years as an accountant for Maunfacturers Bank, and also had been a Tupperware distributor, enjoying entertaining and opening her home for parties. Georgetta was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church where she had helped for a short time with it's Sunday School program.
Georgetta was very dedicated to her family. She served as a 4-H Leader to her children and enjoyed family camping trips later in life. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren blessed her life. Georgetta loved to travel with her husband, Bill, visiting Mexico and practically every state in the U.S. except Alaska. They had an appreciation for the fall colors taking many driving trips and spending time visiting the casinos. When she wasn't on the move, Georgetta was an avid quilter.
Georgetta Grassel, age 75 of Monroe, passed away at home peacefully with Wilbert at her side on Monday, November 4, 2013 .In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her first husband in December of 1960: James "Scotty" Ballantyne; a son, Roy Grassel; two sisters: Audrey Garcia and Sandra Graybill and two brothers: Gary Carney and Burr Snyder Jr.
To cherish her memory, Georgetta leaves a loving husband of fifty-one years: Wilbert "Bill" Grassel ; two daughters: Susan Harper of Monroe and Amy (David) Ayers of Tremont, IL; two sons: John Grassel and David (Kimberly) Grassel both of Monroe; three sisters: Judy (Bert) Castner of Alabama, and Lynn Guy and Lillian (Tom)Waldecker both of Monroe; two brothers: Mark (Denise) Carney of Carleton and Timothy (Beverly) Carney of Newport; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm, Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. Funeral Services will take place at 11:00am on Friday, November 8, 2013 also at Merkle's with Reverend Karl Fuhlbrigge of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn for burial.
