James Wallace Florey was born in Del Ray, Michigan on April 9, 1950. He was the son of the late James Kenneth Florey and Beverly (Norton) Florey. James married the love of his life, the former Connie Robertson on June 10, 1995 in Taylor, Michigan. James supported his family as a Landscaper for North Monroe Street Church of God Mountain Assembly for 5 years before retiring in 2011. He had a passion for landscaping, even on the hottest of days. James was very active in sports growing up and was an awarded baseball player. He had a band called D.C. and the Coachmen, who he released a record with. James was a loving father of two autistic children and a step son. When he had the time, he loved to fish and to watch the Tigers play baseball, taking the games very seriously. James played the harmonica. He enjoyed the J.Geils Band and the "Blues" and he even got pulled up on stage at country concerts for playing. He followed in his father's footsteps, as he was a nightclub singer. James golfed with the guys from A.A. for 12 years and attended blues concerts and jazz festivals in Monroe parks. He received his spiritual nourishment from North Monroe Street Church of God Mountain Assembly where he sang in the choir. James Wallace Florey, age 63 of Monroe, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at home. His passing was preceded by his parents. To cherish his memory, James leaves behind his loving wife of 18 years: Connie Florey; three sons: Jacob Florey, Cody Florey, and Philip Zabrowski of West Bloomfield; a sister: Theresa Metelic of Wayne; a half-sister: Lisa Florey; and a half-brother: Jason Florey. Cremation has taken place through Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at North Monroe Street Church of God Mountain Assembly with Pastor Rick Massingill officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
