Obituary of Susan Petty

Susan Lynne Cassell was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 11, 1966. She was the daughter of Richard Cassell and the late Lottie Lynne Rice. She was adopted and raised by her grandparents at a young age: Murl and Charlotte Vickers. Susan attended Taylor Schools later obtaining her GED. Susan married Lawrence Nielsen and then later married Theodise Petty. Susan was a very private person. She enjoyed the company of her family and friends and cherished the time she spent with each of them. She particularly loved having her grandsons spend the weekend with her. She also treasured watching them play soccer and football. Susan enjoyed sharing meals with her family and friends and especially liked going out to restaurants. She enjoyed watching television, and Susan was a Law and Order junky, especially appreciating the opportunity to catch a twenty-four hour marathon. Susan Lynne Petty age 47 of Monroe passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, October 3, 2013. Her passing was preceded by her birth mother: Lottie Lynne and her grandparents whom raised her: Murriel and Charlotte (Yates) Vickers. To cherish her memory she leaves two daughters: Rachel Williams of Adrian and Samantha Nielsen of Grosse Pointe; her husband: Theodis Petty of Monroe; her father: Richard Cassell of Flat Rock; a lifelong friend and former husband: Lawrence Nielsen of Monroe; a half-sister: Stacy Laiacono; three beloved grandchildren: Kaleb Williams, Jacob Williams, and Austin Gruber; and the many aunts who loved her. Cremation has taken place through Southern Michigan Services in Livonia, Michigan. Friends may gather from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. In lieu of flowers memorial donations for those who desire are suggested to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
