Obituary of Kenneth Ketterman

Kenneth Ketterman was born in Ridgley, West Virginia on April 27, 1940. He was the son of the late Alvin and Elva Ketterman. Ken attended Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, Maryland. He married the love of his life, the former Mary Fields on July 8, 1967 in Cumberland. From this union would come the birth of four children.
Ken worked for Ford Motor Company at their Woodhaven Stamping Plant for more than thirty-three years serving as a Supervisor until his retirement in 2000. After retiring, Ken and Mary spent two years traveling the country living in a motor home. They then spent two years in California before returning to Michigan. Ken returned to work for three years as kitchen help at the IHM, a position he truly cherished.
Ken had many varied interests and hobbies. Throughout life he had a fascination with model trains. He was a skilled woodworker performing home improvements and remodeling often and building doll houses. Ken also enjoyed flying model airplanes.
Ken was kind and friendly, generously sharing his time, and enjoyed making others laugh. He was supportive and encouraging to those around him. Ken was in constant motion, never letting the grass grow beneath his feet. He was a born again Christian receiving his spiritual nourishment through Stewart Road Christian Ministries and singing in the choir.
Ken, age 73 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at home. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by son: Matthew and sister: Oleda.
To cherish his memory, Ken leaves a wife: Mary and daughter: Katherine both of Monroe; two sons: Mark (Allison) Ketterman and Michael (Sherry) Ketterman both of Brownstown; a sister: Evelyn (Frank) Weimer of Florida; a brother: Reverend Richard (Mary) Ketterman of Maryland; three grandchildren: Brandie Ketterman and Fiance Jeff Zukowski, Brandon Ketterman and Amy, and Breanna Ketterman; and great grandson: Brayden Zukowski.
Friends may gather from 1:00-8:00pm on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 5 also at Merkle's with Reverend Dr. Joseph Byrd of Stewart Road officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn for burial.
