Obituary of Catherine Thompson
Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Catherine Elizabeth Benson was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 25, 1954. She was the second oldest of six children born to the late Roy Elton and Geraldine (Stephens) Benson. Cathy was a 1973 graduate of Huron High School.
Cathy married the love of her life, George Thompson, on November 22, 1975 in Flat Rock. The young family made their home in the downriver area moving to Newport fifteen years ago. She was a homemaker. As a mother she was dependable being present at her children's events and their loudest fan. She received her spiritual nourishment from the North Monroe Street Church of God. Cathy was an excellent caretaker putting the needs of others first and often neglecting herself.
Cathy could be superstitious to a fault. She avoided black cats and black birds at all costs, even changing her direction when one would cross her path. Cathy was a Southern gal. Her boys often kidded that she had written the Hillbilly Handbook. She was an excellent cook making many meals from scratch just like her momma used to, and enjoyed being the hostess for large get-togethers, always preparing enough for a small army.
Cathy was a member of the Monroe Moose Lodge and enjoyed playing Bingo and going out to the Casino to gamble. She loved having fun and playing euchre with family and friends.
Catherine "Cathy" Elizabeth Thompson, age 58 of Newport, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Her passing was preceded by her parents.
