Marcus Earl Hoffman was born in Monroe, Michigan on October 2, 1935. He was the only child born from the union of the late Earl Hoffman and the late Eileen (Rader) LaPrad. He was raised along the shores of Lake Erie near Brest Bay in Newport. At a young age he would start a lifelong love of the water that would shape his career path. Marcus joined the United States Navy serving his country honorably and obtaining the rank of Aviation Electrician's Mate First Class. His military career would span some twenty-nine years before Marcus retired on his sixtieth birthday, October 2, 1995. Following his armed forces career, Marcus took employment as an electrician working for Electrical Workers Union Local #58. He married the former Marylyn DeMartin on December 3, 2001 at the Patrick Air Force Base in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Marcus loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisher. He would stay close to the water after his Navy career returning to the Newport area. He loved sailing. Marcus was well known for his gift of procrastination. He had a great sense of humor and was always a joy to be around. Marcus loved to socialize with others and he often had a tall tale to tell. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Marcus Earl Hoffman, age 77 of Newport, passed away at 8:12pm on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at his home. His passing was preceded by his parents and several aunts and uncles. To cherish his memory, Marcus leaves a loving wife: Marylyn Hoffman of Newport; a beloved companion his German Shepard: Heidi; an aunt: Wanda McLain of Monroe; several cousins; and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Marcus will Lie in State from 9:30am until 10:00am on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 8109 Swan Creek Road in Newport. A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00am with Father Victor Roman pastor of the church officiating. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with his arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
