Services have been set for Robert James Cousineau who died on January 13, 1999 in Boyne City, Michigan.
Robert passed at the age of 83 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petosky with his daughter Judy, son Ron and stepson Clark Sorensen present .
Robert was the son of Cornelius and Charlotte Cousino and was born July 25, 1915 in Erie. He attended Catholic Central High School in Toledo. He was a varsity halfback at Michigan State College (MSU today), played in the Orange Bowl and earned a Chemistry degree at MSC. He then joined the Army Air Corps pre WWII as a test pilot serving throughout the war. Robert was awarded the Soldier Medal of Valor. He spent half of his working career designing gas turbine engines and the rest as owner of Temprel Products, a manufacturer of thermal couples located in Boyne City.
He is survived by a son, Ronald and a daughter, Judith, nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and a step son Clark Sorensen with his daughter. He also has a surviving brother: John Cousino from Erie and a sister: Rita Hahn from Hesperia, California. Preceding him in death are two sons: Terrell and Robert, Jr. (Rocky). His cremains remained with his surviving wife Susanne until her death on May 18, 2013.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, 2238 Manhattan Street in Erie, Michigan on Thursday, July 25 at 11:00am. Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street in Erie (734) 848-5185 has been entrusted with his memorial mass and procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery for inurnment. Graveside services will be under the auspices of Erie Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3925 with a luncheon to follow at the Veterans Post.
