Mary Ann Dean, age 67, of Dundee, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014 at her home under the dedicated care of her family and hospice. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio August 28, 1946 the daughter of Russell and Cora (Torisk) Liedel. She grew up in Maybee and graduated from the 8th grade at St. Joseph Elementary School there. She then attended Dundee Schools and beauty school. She married Francis (Fran) Dean of Dundee at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maybee on February 15, 1969. Mary Ann had worked at Wolverine Plastics Co. in Milan and was the secretary at the company she and Fran owned: H.C. Dean & Sons Excavating of Dundee. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Dundee Sportsman Club; enjoyed bowling, bingo, creating ceramics and especially visiting casino’s. She also played on the Dundee Women’s Softball League and was a polio pioneer in an experimental program when she was a teenager. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her survivors include her husband Fran; daughters Susan (Brad) Suwinski of Sylvania and Ann-Marie Dean-Alexander of Dundee; grandchildren Haylee, Hannah, Natalie, Taylor and Joey; brothers Russell (Donnie) Liedel of Murrieta, CA. and Rodney (Peggy) Liedel of Swanton, OH, sisters Karen Crossman of Monroe; Janet (Carl) Brant of Mancelona, MI; Bette Kroeger of Tucson, AZ; Lenore (Dave) Miller of Pahrump, NV; Lynette (Richard) Himebaugh of Newport and Priscilla (JC) Harmon of Dundee. She was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Lee and brothers in law Jim Crossman and Harold Kroeger. Private funeral services will be held. Officiating will Pastor Jim Schenck of the Britton Congregational Church. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee Township. Friends and family will gather at the Dundee Veterans Memorial Building Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 1 to 6 P.M. Chicago Blvd, Britton, MI 49229 or to St. Joseph Mercy Home and Hospice Care, 3075 Clark Road, Suite 200, Ypsilanti, MI 48197 or to the Cancer Connection of Monroe at Mercy Memorial Hospital , 800 Stewart Road, Monroe, MI 48162. Envelopes will be available at the Dundee Veterans Hall.
