Obituary of Edward Chlebowski

Edward Joseph Chlebowski was born in Toledo on July 28, 1923. He was one of two children born from the union of the late Joseph and Anna (Kurek) Chlebowski. Ed honorably served his country as a Corpsman in the United States Navy during WWII. He cared for fellow wounded Seaman and Marines in Guam and Tinian.
Edward married the former, Loretta Mierzwiak on April 15, 1950 in Toledo. From this union came the birth of nine children. Ed supported his family through several endeavors owning a beer and wine carryout in Toledo next to his father's barbershop, later working at Bond Bread Co. as a Teamsters driver for more than ten years, and at Teledyne as an inspector for twenty-three years, retiring in 1988.
Ed was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Erie. He had served as the Commander for the American Legion Post 392 of Deerfield and as a Volunteer Firefighter for Deerfield Township. Ed was a life memebr of the Roman "Buddy Frankowski VFW Post 5530 in Toledo. Ed was an avid outdoor sportsman and boater. He was a skilled marksman, enjoying competitive shooting, and often hunting deer, duck, and various game with his children and grandchildren. Ed often enjoyed playing the trumpet and dancing.
Edward, age 91 of Luna Pier passed away at Magnumcare on Thursday, September 18, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. His passing was preceded by both parents.
To cherish his memory Edward leaves nine children: Jeanette (Bill) Chapman of Florida, Judith (Mark) Holcomb of Tecumseh, Denise Brooks of Kentucky, Diane (Glen) Madden of New Jersey, Cindy (Ed) Valentine of Pinkney, James (Cindy) Chlebowski of Texas, Patricia (Robert) Hoffman of Ypsilanti, Joseph (Tammy) Chlebowski of Monroe and Michael (Carman) Chlebowski of Idaho; a sister: Delores Napierala of California; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Monday, September 22 and Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service; 9156 Summit Street (734) 848-5185. Funeral Services will be held at Merkle's at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 24, with Father David Cybulski officiating. A memorial mass will be scheduled at a later date. Procession will follow to Pleasant View Cemetery in Petersburg for burial where graveside services will be under the auspices of the Deerfield American Legion Post 392.
