Obituary of Michael Hammac

Michael Franklin Hammac was born in Monroe, Michigan on September 8, 1958. He was the son of the late Franklin Hammac and Ruth (England) Hammac. He attended Monroe High School and later attended trade school. For many years Michael worked as a mechanic and welder for various employers. Michael had attended the Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Michael always had a great sense of humor and, in fact, was well known for it. He was always the life of the party and was a natural prankster. Michael had a passion for automobiles. He loved to work on and wrench on them in his spare time and he especially loved classic cars. Michael Franklin Hammac age 53 of Monroe passed away at 1:41am, Sunday, November 13, 2011 in the Emergency Department of Mercy Memorial Hospital. His passing was preceded by his father: Franklin. To cherish his memory Michael leaves five children: Danielle (Jeremy) Shropshire of Monroe, Chris (Carla) Hammac of Monroe, Ben (Amy) Hammac of Point Place, Ohio, Rusty Goins of Monroe, and Terron Hammac of Alabama; his mother: Ruth Hammac of Monroe; three sisters: Gail Poppe, Jessie Kelly, and Geraldine Karas; one brother: Jason Hammac; nine grandchildren: Alicia, Jaide, Carson, Noah, Dillon, Benji, Masen, Bryce, and Sadie; many nieces and nephews whom he had a special bond with; his former spouse Sheila (Pete) Abalos; and his beloved dog AJ. Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather from 6:00pm until 7:00pm, Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, 14260 South Dixie Highway in Monroe Township. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 7:00pm with the Rev. Roy Southerland pastor of the church officiating. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with his arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the Hammac Family.
