Obituary of Virginia Uhl

Virginia Uhl, 93, a long time resident of Dundee, Michigan, passed away suddenly Sunday, May 22, 2011 at her apartment in Norman Towers in Monroe. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia January 20, 1918 to Edward and Margaret (MacCulloch) Wilson. She married Erwin R. Uhl January 30, 1937 in Dundee. He passed away August 18, 1990 after 53 years of marriage. Virginia was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee, and was a former member of the Dundee Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed spending time with her family, enjoyed reading, canning and crocheting and was fondly called “The Cookie Grandma” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her survivors include her four sons: Roderick (Betty) Uhl of Monroe, Russell (Ruth) Uhl of Saline, Joseph (Mary) Uhl of Lewiston and David (Joanna) Uhl of Dundee; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Erwin, a brother Edward Wilson and two sisters Elsie Dunn and Eleanor Ackley. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has been held. Friends may gather at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) on Wednesday from 1 – 9 P.M. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. until a service at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee. Officiating will be Rev. Annette Griffin. Cremains interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee. Memorials in her name may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
