Michael D. Barker, age 63 of Petersburg, was called home by the love of God on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo following a long illness. He was born in Chicago, Illinois September 4, 1950 the son of Kathryn Moorehouse. Mike graduated from Summerfield High school in 1970 and married Frances (Fran) Smith July 13, 1974 at the First Baptist Church in Ida. He worked for the Ford Motor Company for 8 years, then was self employed in the construction industry and kitchen and bath design, then had worked at Guardian Glass Company. He is an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Dundee where he serves as a deacon and bus driver. He also loved hunting when his health was better and was a Michigan football fan. Survivors include his wife Fran; sons Shawn Barker of Petersburg and Chadd (Krista) Barker of Hudson; daughters Angela (Todd) Smith of Petersburg and Jennifer (Lynn) Parmelee of Ypsilanti; brother Dale (Linda) Barker of Toledo and sister Dawn (George) Lada of Ottawa Lake; grand-children Taylor, Trevor, Alex, Andrew, Anna, Makayla, Braydn, Sydnee, Matthew, Felisha, Phillip, Catherine, Gregory, Ashley, Logan, Westley, Debra, Beth and Kaylynn. He was preceded in death by his mother and adopted father Kathryn and Carroll Barker. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). The family will also receive friends Monday, September 23, 2013 from 10 AM until 11 AM funeral services at Calvary Baptist Church in Dundee. Officiating will be Rev. Don Brown. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Summerfield Township. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family to help defray funeral expenses.
