Obituary of Janet Joan Smock

Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Janet Joan Siatkowski was born on September 29, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the oldest of twin daughters born from the union of the late Thaddeus Siatkowski and the late Ruby (Konkel) Siatkowski. Janet attended Chadsey High School and graduated with the Class of 1951.

Janet married the love of her life, Wilbur L. Smock Jr, on January 16, 1954 in Allen Park.   She would make her home in Allen Park for more than fifty years. From their union came the birth of one daughter:  Loretta.

Janet cared for the needs of her husband and daughter.   She also spent forty-five years employed as a book keeper in the billing department for American Mailers.   Janet retired in 1998.   Janet enjoyed retirement and kept things simple, often staying home in her comfy pajamas and watching her favorite soaps.

She was very involved with her community and was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge of Taylor being. Janet was the “Bingo Queen”, never missing a chance to play.   She had a kind heart and was very generous, but she was known to be “stubborn as a mule” and wasn’t afraid to tell those around her how it was .   In her spare time she collected frogs.   Janet loved to spend time with her grandchildren and had a special unique bond with both of them.

Janet Joan Smock, age 85 of Monroe, passed away at 12:45am on January 17, 2018 at the IHM Healthcare Center in Monroe. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her beloved husband: Wilbur L. Smock in August of 1973; her significant other: Willis Walters in 1992; and her twin sister:  Joan Janet at birth.

To cherish her memory, Janet leaves her daughter: Loretta (Thomas) Hethcox; and two grandsons: Matthew Flinkman (Kyle McCue) and Jacob Hethcox.
