Obituary of Atwood Stanley

Please share a memory of Atwood to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Atwood Cavins was born on October 6, 1926 in Pikeville, Kentucky. She was one of eleven children born from the union of the late William Bradley Cavins and the late Corona Elizibeth (Sloane) Cavins. Atwood married the love of her life, Eugene Stanley on May 6, 1946 in Kentucky. From this union came the birth of their three children.

Atwood was a devoted wife, homemaker and excellent mother. She was very smart and a very loving lady. She was a person you could talk to about anything and was always understanding, even if she did not agree with you. She was strong willed but very private.

In her free time, she enjoyed reading, working on her crossword puzzles and lighthouses. She enjoyed being outdoors tending to her garden and flowers. She received her spiritual nourishment by attending North Monroe Street Church of God and always enjoyed listening to her gospel music.

Atwood Stanley, age 91, passed away at Fountainview in Monroe Michigan. She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene of 68 years; her parents; her seven brothers, three sisters, her grandson Mikey Markus and her great granddaughter Sophia Torre.

To cherish her memory, Atwood leaves her children: Linda Sue (the late Michael) Markus of Romulus, Michigan, Danny (Bonnie) Stanley of Welake, Florida and JoAnn (Dennis) Smallwood of Carleton, Michigan; six grandchildren: Amy Torre, Randy Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Jim Algood, Sherri O’Leary, Kristi Ferro, five great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

Friends may gather on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, (734) 384-5185.
