Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irene Catherine Knaggs was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 25, 1937. She was one of five born from the union of the late Archibald Thompson and the late Marcella Dushane. Irene married the love of her life on April 6, 1959 in LaSalle and from this union came the birth of three children. Irene received her spiritual nourishment attending St. Michaels Catholic Church in Monroe. She was a wonderful mother and sister. Irene provided for her family as a stay at home mom and cared for her disabled son. She loved to spend time with her family by cooking for special occasions. Irene was known as the "backbone" of the family that kept the family close and was notorious for playing the part of "peacemaker." Irene was mild mannered and easy going who would rarely let things upset her. With her bubbly and robust personality, she had the ability to let things roll off her back; however, had a temper when it really mattered. Irene loved her family and friends and would help anyone in need. In her quiet time, Irene enjoyed crocheting and solving crossword puzzles. Irene Catherine Knaggs, age 76 of Adrian, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 6:50pm on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Lynwood Manor Nursing Home. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her step-mother: Thelma Thompson; her loving husband of 34 years: Herman Knaggs; a sister: Mary (Lawrence) Durant; and two brothers: John Thompson and Archie Thompson. To cherish her memory, Irene leaves behind a daughter: Denise (James) Wrock of Indiana; two sons: Gary Knaggs of Adrian and William Knaggs of Gibraltar; a sister: Cheryl (James) Allred of Flat Rock; four grandchildren: LaDonna Ball of Indiana, Karissa (James) Jacques of Indiana, James (Rebecca) Wrock of Westland, and Michael Wrock of Indiana; and two great grandchildren: Chase and Nealia. Cremation has taken place through Southern Michigan Services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185.
