Obituary of Danny Leon Smith

Danny Leon Smith, went to be with his Lord on August 20, 2017.   He was born to Troy and Opal Smith in Fostoria, Ohio on Friday, August 15, 1941. He was his sister Carol's special 5th Birthday gift; creating a very close bond.

Immediately after graduation from Fostoria High School, he joined the U.S. Army.  He served in Germany during the Berlin Crisis, as a clerk in S2 Intelligence.  He married Norma Shull on February 1, 1964 and she survives.

He gave his life to the Lord on January 30, 1977.  The North Monroe Street Church of God, Mountain Assembly, has been his home church for 18 years and he was part of the Ypsilanti Gideon Camp for over a decade.

His life's career was that of a Senior Appraiser and Certified Michigan Assessor, Level 3 for over 45 years, retiring in 2015.  Dan also served as the City Administrator for the City of Milan, Michigan:  Assessor for that City for over a decade, as well as working for a Mass Real Estate Appraisal Firm, Assessor for the Townships of Pittsfield, York, Erie and the City of Petersburg. He was a Commercial and Industrial Appraiser for the City of Monroe and Romulus, Michigan. Dan loved sports and classic cars, auctions and garage sales and had a passion for the language of an auctioneer, speaking it like none other. 

His children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life and they survive.

Son: Randell Scott Smith, Escondido, CA; Daughters: Daneen Jae (Bobby) Noe, San Diego, CA, Dannielle (David) Maki, Chicago, IL and grandchildren, Grant and Elle Noe, San Diego, CA; Sisters:  Carol Niedzwicki, LaCanto, FL; Deanna Steinhauser, Findlay, OH; Marvene Vitt, Fostoria, OH and brother, Jerry Smith, Bella Vista AK., James (Betsy) Shull, and Nancy Jacquot, Risingsun, OH, and several nieces and nephews. He had a great love for their dearest friends, Mickey and Brenda Watts.  He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother Troy and Opal Smith, Step-Father Ray Kissling, Brothers-in-law, Frank Jacquot, Tom Vitt, Gene Neidzwicki and a nephew Gary L Vitt and niece, Jody K Frankart.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 24th, 2017 at the North Monroe Street Church of God, Mountain Assembly, 2393 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162.  He will lie-in-state from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Friday, August 25th, 2017 with the Funeral Service at 11:00 am.  Pastor Richard Massingill officiating.   A gathering of family and friends will celebrate his life immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.   Graveside services will take place at 3:30pm under the auspices of Fostoria United Veterans at Scott Trinity Cemetery, Kansas, OH following the dinner (a one hour drive from Monroe). Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with his arrangements.
