Robert Leo Grodi
November 14, 1921 - October 20, 2012
Robert Leo Grodi was born in Monroe, Michigan on November 14, 1921. He was the son of the late Rayfield Grodi and the late Lelah (McIntyre) Grodi. Robert served his country honorably from April of 1942 until January of 1946 as a member of the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Chehalis.
Robert married the love of his life the former Lillie R. Frankhouse on March 19, 1946 in Bowling Green, Ohio. From this union came the birth of two children. Robert supported his family working as a laborer for more thirty-two years at Detroit Stoker. He retired in 1982.
A lifelong Monroe County resident, Robert loved the outdoors. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing and always enjoyed country music. Robert loved to watch Old Western movies and he was especially a fan of John Wayne. He was a very private person, but enjoyed the company of his family. In the past, Robert liked to play euchre with his family.
Robert Leo Grodi, age 90, of Monroe passed away peacefully at Mercy Memorial Hospital at 5:58pm on Saturday, October 20, 2012. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by his beloved wife: Lillie Grodi on December 7, 2005; one son: Robert E. Grodi on November 18, 2009; one brother: Art Grodi and one baby brother: Carl Grodi.
To cherish his memory he leaves one daughter: Terry (Arling) Mayo of LaSalle; three brothers: Ray (Ramonda) Grodi, Clyde Grodi, and Lester Grodi all of Monroe; one sister: Rita Evans of Monroe; five grandchildren: Kimberly (George) Meyers of Monroe, Robert Lee Grodi of Monroe, Lynnette (William) Ploeger of Carleton, Abraham (Michelle) Grodi of Inkster, and Joshua Grodi of Monroe; fourteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am, Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 11:00am also at Merkle's. Procession will follow to LaSalle Township Cemetery for burial. Graveside services will be under the auspices of Monroe VFW Post 1138.
