Obituary of Margaret Ann Hatfield

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret Ann Billmaier was born on November 27, 1952 in Monroe, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Frederick James Billmaier and the late Mary (Schmidt) Billmaier. Margaret attended Erie Mason High School where she graduated with the Class of 1970.

For several years, Margaret worked as a cook.   She was employed by Teresa and Ken’s also known as Rock Garden and also by Carl’s Hideaway.   Margaret married the love of her life Arthur Hatfield on August 19, 1972 at Zion United Methodist Church in LaSalle.   From their union came the birth of one son:  Brian.   Margaret cared for the needs of her family as a homemaker.   Not one to sit around she was also employed by a local construction firm as a flagger.

Margaret was generous to a fault.   She loved to be around people.   A genuine, social butterfly, Margaret could carry a conversation with anyone and made friends wherever she went.   She cherished time spent with family and especially her rescue dog, Baxter.   To challenge her mind, she enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and word searches.

Margaret enjoyed being outdoors and camping.   She and Arthur enjoyed their thirty-five foot trailer, a major upgrade from the nights spent out in a tent.   The couple would send more than thirty years at their home away from home; Sunny’s Campground in Wauseon, Ohio.

Margaret Ann Hatfield, age 64, of Monroe passed away at 11:40am on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in the Emergency Department of ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.   In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by two sisters:  Mary “Boots” Prater and Kathryn Johnson; and four brothers: Bill Schmidt, Harold Schmidt, Richard Schmidt, and Donnie Schmidt.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband: Arthur Hatfield of Monroe; her son: Brian Hatfield of Monroe; two brothers: Thomas “Tom” (Gwen) Schmidt of Erie and Frederick “Bud” (Karen) Billmaier of Ida; and many other nieces and nephews.
