Obituary of Roger Purcell

Roger Wayne Purcell was born in Grand Haven, Michigan on January 20, 1940. He was the son of the late Robert Purcell and the late Ruth (Start) Purcell. Roger was a graduate of Grand Haven High School.
Roger married the love of his life the former Linda Kemritz on December 8, 1962 in LaSalle. From this union would come the birth of two sons. Roger would support his young family as a plumber and pipefitter joining the Local 671 in Monroe in 1972. He retired in 2002 although he proudly maintained his membership till present day.
Roger was an avid outdoorsman. He loved visiting the family cabin in West Branch as often as possible. Roger was always surrounded by family and friends, and he enjoyed entertaining his guests at the cabin. Roger also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he shared this love with his children and grandchildren.
Roger was an avid sports fan. He regularly made time to watch his boys play sports and later in life enjoyed doing the same with his grandchildren. Roger was a die-hard Detroit Tiger fan and could always be caught watching a game and enjoying a cold beer. Frequent trips to the local casinos were additional favorite pastimes.
Roger Wayne Purcell, age 72, of Erie passed away at 6:48am, Thursday, September 27, 2012 at his home. He had been under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a brother: Rick Purcell.
To cherish his memory, Roger leaves a loving wife: Linda of Erie; two sons: Timothy (Michelle) Purcell of Temperance and Jeffrey (Angela) Purcell of Ida; two sisters: Barb (Harvey) Bekins of Grand Haven and Bonnie Bramer of California; four brothers: Robert (Margaret) Purcell of Grand Haven, Ronald (Beverly) of Spring Lake, Richard (Sandy) Purcell of Grand Haven, and Randy Purcell of Grand Haven; and four beloved grandchildren: Taylor, Trevor, Ashley, and Jeffrey Purcell.
No public services are planned. Cremation has taken place. Merkle Funeral Service was entrusted with his arrangements.
