Jerry D. Coolman, age 65 formerly of Monroe, Michigan passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012 at his home in Inverness, Florida, where he graciously donated his body to science for medical research through the Medcure organization. www.medcure.org
Family and friends may gather from 1:00pm until 4:00pm, Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 4:00pm. Sister Kate O'Brien chaplain will officiate.
Born June 1, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio he was the son of J.D. and Mae (Lucas) Coolman, he was a 1965 graduate of Monroe High School, Monroe, Michigan.
Jerry was employed as a Maintenance Supervisor at the Detroit Edison Monroe Power Plant. He owned and operated several businesses including; Coolman's Lawn and Garden Center, Jerry Coolman Trucking and he also ran a family farm.
His many hobbies over the years included model railroading, piloting his own private airplane, and civil war reenactments. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol - Monroe Squadron.
He will be fondly remembered for his love of tromping through the woods for mushrooms every spring, he enthusiastically looked forward to morel mushroom hunting which was a long standing family tradition dating back over four generations.
To cherish his memory he leaves behind his wife Carol "Sue" (Schaller) Coolman; two children Jeff Coolman of Enterprise, Mississippi and Kate (Al) Goins of Maybee, Michigan; one sister: Carolyn (Steve) Assenmacher of Coldwater, Michigan; four grandchildren: Katie and Johnathon Coolman, Brooklynn Duvall, and Kallen Goins. He also leaves behind two Stepsons: Gary and Steven Greer and four step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Hollie (Coolman) Estes.
