Donna Jane Kachar was born in Monroe, Michigan on May 16, 1967 in Monroe, Michigan. She was the daughter of Sam Kachar and Shirley (Duvall) Kachar. Donna was baptized and received her first communion at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church. She attended Monroe Public Schools and Monroe High School.
Donna suffered from poor health for most of her life. For many years, however, she served others as a homecare aide for local nursing facilities.
Donna was a very kind-hearted person. She loved to spend time with her constant companion a Basset Hound named Chloe. Donna loved to read and take long walks. She had an impressive collection of porcelain elephants, and she enjoyed visiting the casino and playing the slots. Donna was an avid sports fan. She particularly loved baseball, and her favorite team was the New York Yankees. Recently, Donna spent much of her time at home where she liked to surf the Internet to keep-in-touch with family and friends on Facebook.
Donna Jane Kachar went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ after a long illness on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Her passing was preceded by her grandparents and a sister: Melody Kachar on June 25, 2012.
To cherish her memory, Donna leaves two daughters: Brittany (Ryan) Kunzelman of Monroe and Brooke McLaughlin of Monroe; her mother: Shirley Kachar of Monroe her father and step-mother: Sam (Judy) Kachar of Monroe; three sisters: Kathy Kachar-Hoffman of New Boston, Yvonne Kachar of San Francisco, and Julie Alhamed of Ducktown, Tennessee; a brother: Sam Kachar II of Monroe; a step-sister: Sylvia (Stan) Kachar; a grandson: Xavier Kunzelman of Monroe; ; her special companion: Gene, and nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A prayer service will be recited at 7:00pm. She will lie in state from 10:00am until Funeral Services at 11:00am, Monday, September 10, 2012 at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 2330 North Monroe Street. Father Rade Obsenica pastor of the church will be officiating. Procession will then follow to Woodland Cemetery for burial.
