James Robert Best was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 6, 1932. He was the son of the late James Best and the late Mary (Ogilvie) Best. He served his country honorably from December 29, 1951 until November 14, 1955 as a member of the United States Air Force
For many years James worked as a railroad conductor for Conrail. In 1982, after his retirement, James, moved to Florida where he had resided until recently.
James Robert Best age 80 of Monroe, formerly of Frostproof, Florida passed away at 6:17am Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at MagnumCare of Monroe. He had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe. His passing in addition to his parents was preceded by an infant twin brother.
To cherish his memory he leaves a daughter: Pamela (Curtis) McClarnon of North Carolina; two sons: James (Paula) Best of Monroe, Michigan and Steven C. Best of Polk City, Florida; one brother: David E. Best of Dearborn, Michigan; and several grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Friends may gather on Monday, July 30, 2012 at noon for a graveside service at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with his arrangements.
